Memorial stone unveiled in Fochriw
On 25th September a new memorial stone was unveiled in the village of Fochriw. As well as commemorating the men from the village that lost their lives in times of war, the memorial stone also remembers those 141 men and boys who were killed whilst working at Fochriw Colliery in the past.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Armed Forces, National Union of Mineworkers and local dignitaries, and children from the local primary school read out the names of all those being remembered. As well as receiving a blessing, a poppy wreath was laid at the stone in tribute.
The memorial stone was organised by the Darren Valley History Group and part sponsored by Miller Argent.
