Ynysddu Primary pupils prove to be the pride of their place

Pupils from the Ynysddu Primary School in Cwmfelinfach proved to be the pride in their local community recently, when they scooped a top prize at Caerphilly Council’s ‘Pride in your Place’ awards. Blackwood Miners Institute was the venue for the prize giving, where the school collected the ‘Best Community Project’ award in the event which is part sponsored by Miller Argent.

The Ynysddu youngsters’ award was for their inventive ‘Incredible Edible’ project, which identified a large area in and around the school where the children, staff and others in the local community could plant fruit trees, fruit bushes and herbs & vegetables. The crops will be looked after by the children and community, with the aim of using the produce grown to help make Ynysddu the healthiest place in the Valleys, while also bringing back lost skills, such as jam making.
