Finning and Miller Argent delivering Christmas joy to Merthyr Tydfil

This year, mining machine and maintenance company Finning UK, who have a base at Ffos-y-fran, and Miller Argent, have been spreading more than a little Christmas joy by donating a huge pile of gifts to the Merthyr Tydfil Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal.

It was Finning Service Administrator Lucy Cartwright who first came upon the idea of coordinating the fundraiser back in November.

Donations came from Finning staff, its own ‘Finning Giving’ scheme and also from employees from Miller Argent and raised an impressive total of £745 for the appeal.

Using the money raised, Finning and Miller Argent staff hit the shops to buy hundreds of toys, sweets and personalised gifts for local people in need. The gifts were then passed on to the Salvation Army to distribute to those who find themselves homeless, alone or housebound.  The gifts will also be shared with struggling families who have limited or no money to buy their children food, clothes or toys over the festive season.

Speaking on behalf of Finning, Site Manager, Dai Bates-Moss said: “Finning are delighted to be able to help the Christmas Present Appeal and I would like to thank everyone involved for their generous donations, and in particular Lucy, who’s hard work and dedication has led to the success of this fantastic initiative. The gifts we have bought will now be handed over to the Salvation Army to distribute to those in need across Merthyr this Christmas.”

Nigel Collins Major from Merthyr Tydfil’s Salvation Army said:
“We are extremely grateful for this generous donation to our Christmas Present Appeal. Finning and its associates have shown what can be done when a group of individuals care enough to make a positive difference to those less fortunate within the community over the Christmas period and we thank them for their efforts.”
