Caerphilly Youngsters Benefit from new Minibus

Representatives from Miller Argent and the Lord’s Taverners charity group were in Caerphilly to present pupils at Trinity Fields School with a brand new minibus. Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre in Ystrad Mynach is a purpose built school that provides education and specialist facilities for pupils aged between 3 and 19 with a wide range of special educational needs including profound and multiple learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties, physical and medical needs, and multi-sensory impairments.

The new 16-seat wheelchair accessible minibus will be central to providing pupils with daily opportunities to learn. As well as being used for educational visits, the minibus will also be used to transport pupils to swimming and other sporting and recreational activities, work experience and enable them to access facilities on offer in the local community.

The minibus was made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of Miller Argent, who contributed £17,000 towards the cost of the new vehicle.

The minibus was arranged by the Lord Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity who, amongst many initiatives, place specially adapted minibuses in schools for young people with learning and physical disabilities through their national Accessible Minibus Scheme.

Headteacher at Trinity Fields School, Ian Elliott MBE, said: “On behalf of the pupils, staff and governors we are delighted to receive our brand new Lord’s Taverners minibus. We are very grateful to the Lord’s Taverners and to our sponsor Miller Argent for making our dream possible. We look forward to using the bus to support pupils’ learning. Our pupils love their bright new green bus and are all ready for their first ride in it!”

Neil Brown, Managing Director of Miller Argent said: “It is a privilege for Miller Argent to be supporting the Trinity Fields School, and the fantastic work they do within the Caerphilly Borough. We hope that this new minibus will help the school, and significantly benefit its students. We wish the school every success for the future.”

Ed Meggitt, Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Wales region, said: “It is a privilege to be able to present the pupils at Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre with a special minibus. At Lord’s Taverners we believe it is important that everyone should be able to enjoy sports and recreations and the new minibus will help the pupils do this. We are proud to support the staff and young pupils of Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre.”
