Responsible Mining

We are experienced in mining responsibly and we are using best practice at Ffos-y-fran which is an approach we will continue at Nant Llesg.

We employ the most modern and appropriate surface mining techniques at Ffos-y-fran, utilising state of the art equipment.

This helps to ensure that all of our work is conducted safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulations and other industry guidelines.

All our operations have to adhere to stringent licensing criteria set out and policed by the local authorities, statutory regulators and Welsh Government.

Since 2008 all our workings have been classified as a “Low Risk” by both Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Caerphilly County Borough Council under the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) European directive. This classification came about only after we consistently proved to the authorities that we could run a high quality and responsible operation, that was sensitive to the needs of our neighbours.

Environmental management is central to our operations, our environmental legislative record is impeccable and we are both ISO9001 (Quality Standard) and ISO14001 (Environmental Management Standard) accredited. Both of which are externally and independently audited by the British Standards Institution(BSI).

We take our duties as an responsible employer very seriously. We are proud that we pay our employees at least the Living Wage.

We also have a zero-tolerance approach to slavery and we are committed to preventing acts of slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our business.
